Pleasanton, California has a downtown area that still serves as the center of the community in many regards. It is the center of several of the largest events in the community. This area is pedestrian-friendly by design, having numerous restaurants with al fresco dining. The various festivals that are thrown throughout the year are organized by several different organizations, with the majority of the events being held during the summer months. There are numerous hotels in this area of the city where visitors can stay for these events. There is also ample public transit around Pleasanton.

One of the most popular of the summer events in Pleasanton are the concerts in the park. Every Friday, locals begin laying out blankets in the Lion’s Wayside Park, where these concerts are held. The blankets are left to reserve spots for the festivities. These events draw large crowds and feature a variety of different acts, with most of them playing laid back music. The downtown is partially closed off during these events, and residents are free to wander around and enjoy the downtown businesses while the festivities are ongoing. These events are held from June through September.

Friday night is not the only night that pedestrians have free reign throughout downtown, however. The city hosts First Wednesday from the months of May through September. These evenings are themed, with every week bringing a different flavor to the festivities. There are areas of the downtown which are converted to beer gardens, where residents enjoy the warm summer evenings over wine and beer. These events are also very popular with members of the community. While evening events are mostly about relaxing and enjoying the community, there are practical events which are held downtown, as well.

Every Saturday, there is a Farmer’s Market which is held in the downtown. The weekends are also busy for Pleasanton’s Stoneridge Shopping Center, which is the largest in the community. It has all the large mall anchor stores available. Shopping downtown or at the Center are both popular pastimes. There are places to stay fit in the community, as well. Pleasanton has a good amount of park land set aside and these constitute two of the area’s more popular destinations.

There are water sports, both motorized and non-motorized, to be enjoyed at Shadow Cliffs Regional Park. The lake is suitable for fishing and boating. Many residents also use it for simple swimming and sunbathing. This park is situated on the eastern section of the city. The other major parks are The Augustin Bernal Park and the Pleasanton Ridge Park, which are on the western edge of Pleasanton. The downtown area, aside from the commercial attractions, also has some of the most interesting architecture around. A good number of the buildings at the core of the city were constructed in the 19th Century and represent a diversity of architectural styles. This community has quite an interesting history, and the architecture reveals an eclectic spirit.

Pleasanton, California has a host of activities available to its residents. There are numerous parks in the city and the Parks and Community Services Department offers a range of different events. The city is also the host of several events throughout the year, many of them centering on the arts. Pleasanton is fortunate enough to have a downtown area, which provides a natural setting for many of these events. The downtown is pedestrian-friendly, which means it’s easy to walk from many of these events to resources such as restaurants and practical stores.

Shakespeare performances are offered in the open air, a city-sponsored event that draws large crowds. The event is free for everyone. The city also is the host of the Poetry, Prose & Arts Festival. This event combines open-air art exhibitions with live readings of various pieces in the park. One of the major theatres in the city, the Amador, is the host of a regular series of performances, which are also sponsored by the city. These events are very popular, as well.

The city of Pleasanton has several organizations which contribute to the various events that are held throughout the year. The Pleasanton Community Concert Band offers performances all over. There are several different organizations dedicated to a variety of arts, including the Pleasanton Art League and the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council. For those who wish to participate in creating their own art in addition to seeing that of professionals, there are a variety of activities including photography, ceramics and drawing classes offered to residents by the Parks and Community Services Department. There are programs offered for children and younger individuals, as well, which comprise a very wide variety of activities and interests.

The children in Pleasanton can get involved in various arts programs, sporting activities and after school activities through the city. These activities also include practical services, such as programs that prepare youth to find employment. The city has a skate park and numerous other facilities available in its public areas. There are also adventures on tap for the entire family at the local parks, some of the most popular places in the area for recreation.

The Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area boasts a water park, which is a busy destination on hot summer days. For some individuals, however, the crowds and bustling environment of the parks may be a bit more energetic than what they’re looking for. There are golf courses available around Pleasanton that provide a more relaxed, calm way to enjoy yourself in the city. The Pleasanton Fairways Golf Course is one of the more popular places to get out on the links. This is a 30-hole course. The course is a large one, with a total span of almost 2,000 yards. Other options include the Callippe Preserve course, which is an 18-hole challenge. The course has a driving range so you can practice our swing and a clubhouse where you can catch up on your socializing.
