A person who struck a pole while riding a bike suffered life-threatening injuries Saturday in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood, a fire spokeswoman said today.

At about 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, emergency crews responded to a report of an injured biker at the intersection of Jones and Turk streets, according to San Francisco fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge.

The biker was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Talmadge said.

Talmadge did not have an update on the victim's condition as of 5 p.m. today.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
